Kikuchi et al revealed that pre-dilution of online HDF solutions provides additional advantages in terms of patient survival compared with those provided in HD using high-flux or super high-flux dialyzers. However, unless the online HDF's conditions are set appropriately, the advantage of HDF will not be achieved and will be only those provided by ordinary treatment. The characteristics of HDF include excellent removal of middle- and large-molecular weight solutes through increased convectional transport. As a result, it is necessary to create conditions which can make use of the benefits of online HDF. To that end, it is absolutely necessary to acquire an understanding of removal rates for α1-microglobulin and the amount of albumin leakage under standard treatment conditions for individuals hemodialfilters. |
