[ Summary ] |
The term reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (PRES) was introduced by Hinchey et al. It is a clinical entity exhibiting reversible symptoms, including headache, altered mental functions, seizures, and loss of vision associated with findings indicating predominantly posterior leukoencephalopathy, as seen in imaging studies. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain demonstrates bilateral white-matter abnormalities suggesting edema in the posterior regions of the cerebral hemisphere. Some cases may present with inappropriate fluid levels. Poor blood pressure control may cause PRES in hemodialysis therapy patients. |
