| [ Summary ] |
Acute renal failure develops frequently as a complication of sepsis and septic shock, and may result in hypotension and ischemia caused by heart and lung failure and renal action of humoral mediators. However, the definite mechanisms of renal disfunction are not clear yet. Because of this it may be worthwhile to notice that renal failure is caused by the cytokine network from endotoxins directly and indirectly. Polymyxin B-immobilized fiber (PMX-F) treatments using direct hemoperfusions might be effective in endotoxemia from endotoxins and endogenous cannabinoid adsorption, and might decrease the cytokine serum concentration. In this review, we summarized recent reports about the relation ship between PMX-F treatment and the occurrence of acute renal failure, endotoxins and their mediators in the prevention of acute renal failure. |
