Title IIc-type early cancer and laterally spreading tumor of the colorectum --their similarities and differences
Author Kiyoshi Uchimi Department of Gastroenterology, Sendai City Medical Center
[ Summary ] In order to clarify differences and similarities between superficial depressed (IIc) type colorectal cancer and the non-granular type laterally spreading tumor (LST-NG), 167 cases were reviewed from a clinico-pathological point of view. Both IIc and LST-NG were frequently seen in the transverse colon but less so in the cecum and rectum. The tumor size of LST-NG was signifi cantly larger than that of IIc. In LST-NG, the pseudo-depressed type (NG-PD) significantly larger in size (18.2 +/- 5.2mm) than the flat elevated type (NG-F) (15.5 +/- 4.9). Seventynine percent of the IIc lesions were 10mm or less in size and none were greater than 15mm (av.:6.5 +/- 3.9). The rate of submucosal invasion in IIc, NG-F, and NG-PD was 18%, 4%, and 29%, respectively. The rate of submucosal invasion increased with size in both the IIc and NC-PD groups.
Therefore, LST-NG, NG-PD should be treated with care as should IIc.
