[ Summary ] We examined the complications associated with endoscopic polypectomies for small colorectal polyps less than 10mm in diameter. The main complications associated with endoscopic polypectomies were hemorrhage and perforations. Post polypectomized hemorrhage and perforations were seen in 0.31%(52 lesions) and 0.02%(4 lesions) of our group having colorectal polyps(17,260 lesions) respectively. In cases with small colorectal polyps less than 10mm in diameter, hemorrhage and perforations associated with endoscopic polypectomies were occured in 29 and 2 lesions. In 9 of hemorrhagic lesions of small colorectal polyps, progressive anemia was seen, and a blood transfusions was necessary in one cases. We mainly used endoscopic clipping procedures for treatment of hemorrhage associated with endoscopic polypectomies, because it was considered to be effective and safe. In all hemorrhagic lesions except one, we were able to achieve hemostasis by using clipping procedures. Based on these results, it is most important to perform endoscopic polypectomies carefully, even for small colorectal polyps less than 10mm in diameter.
