【 要旨 】 大腸側方発育型腫瘍（laterally spreading tumor；LST）という用語は，工藤進英らによって提唱された水平発育する腫瘍群に対する呼称である．したがって，表層拡大型食道癌や胃癌に対応するものであり，肉眼型の一つとは異なる．2013年7月に改訂された『大腸癌取扱い規約（第8版）』に，その定義と典型画像が掲載され名実ともに本邦での公用語として認められた．「LST」は大腸癌の発育進展において重要な役割を演じているとともに，その細分類をpit patternとともに評価することは，病変の治療方法選択に必須である．

[ Summary ] The term "LST" was proposed by Kudo as a superficially spreading colorectal tumor larger than 10 mm in size and has been used worldwide. In July 2013 the term “LST” was described in the Japanese Classification of Colorectal Carcinoma, 8th Edition. The definition of "LST" is an appellation for superficially spreading tumors and not a macroscopic classification. LSTs may play an important role in development of colorectal carcinoma. Estimations of both LST subclassification and pit pattern findings are essential in selecting suitable therapeutic methods.
