| [ Summary ] |
The most frequent indication for capsule endoscopy (CE) is obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. Other potential indications for CE are Crohn's disease, small bowel tumors, hereditary polyposis syndromes, abdominal pain due to unknown causes, malabsorption, and protein-losing enteropathy. However, the diagnostic yield and the utility of CE for these indications still remain unclear. Patients with known diseases of the small intestine as well as those with suspected conditions may now be compensated by the national health insurance system. Expansion of insurance coverage mean more patients will receive examinations which will reveal many diseases of the small intestine. |
