【 要旨 】 肝硬変はかつて不可逆な疾患と考えられていたが，現在ではウイルス肝炎治療をはじめ原因に対する治療が発展し，可逆性のある疾患としてエビデンスが蓄積され，新たな治療法の開発が模索されている．本稿では線維化改善というアプローチを線維形成（fibrogenesis）を阻害することと線維溶解（fibrolysis）とに分けて検討し，それに付随する再生促進という観点についても考えていきたい．とくにわれわれが注目している細胞療法でのアプローチを紹介していきたい．

[ Summary ] Previously, liver cirrhosis was thought to be irreversible. However, recently a great deal of evidence has indicated that liver cirrhosis is reversible after anti-viral therapy using direct acting antivirals for the hepatitis C virus and nucleotide analogue for the hepatitis B virus. Furthermore basic studies and clinical studies targeting regression of fibrosis are ongoing. In this section, we will introduce the recent basic and clinical study targeting fibrogenesis and fibrolysis.
