There is increasing need for Kampo therapy among patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. Kampo medicines are useful for improving the patients' quality of life and attenuating the adverse effects of modern medicine. In this article, we describe the uses of Kampo therapy for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, with particular focus on the treatment of individual frequently presenting symptoms of the diseases in the clinical setting. Kampo therapy is an important option in complementary treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases, for example, in patients who cannot tolerate modern medical treatment. Positive application of Kampo therapy is recommended for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. |
