[ Summary ] |
Endoscopic removal of colorectal adenomas is known to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer death. Therefore, it is necessary to remove all adenomas during colonoscopy. In prior studies, more than 90 % of polyps have reportedly been less than 10 mm in size. We developed a method of endoscopic removal based on polyp size, morphology, and location. In general, cold polypectomy without electrocautery is safe. Therefore, cold snare polypectomy is widely used for removal of sub-centimeter polyps. Cold forceps polypectomy and cold snare polypectomy are often used for removal of polyps less than 3 mm. For removal of sub-centimeter polyps, hot snare polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection are usually used. Because of the widespread use of cold snare polypectomy, both, hot snare polypectomy and cold snare polypectomy are candidates for use in endoscopic removal of sub-centimeter polyps, although it is not known which technique is superior. Further evaluation of cold snare polypectomy is needed. |
