【 要旨 】 潰瘍性大腸炎（ulcerative colitis；UC）の病勢を評価する方法としては，さまざまなclinical indices（CIs）およびendoscopic indices（EIs）がある．しかし，各clinical trialあるいは施設で使用されるEIsは統一されておらず，いわゆるchampion indexは存在しない．また，各EIsにおける評価者間の相違（interobserver variation）も問題となる．本稿ではEIs，とくにUlcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity（UCEIS）に関して概説する．

[ Summary ] Various clinical indices (CIs) and endoscopic indices (EIs) are available to evaluate the state of ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the EIs used in different clinical trials and institutions are not consistent, and no so-called "champion index" exists. Moreover, inter-observer variation remains a problem for EIs. This article reviews EIs, with a particular focus on the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS).
