[ Summary ] |
Increases in disease incidence and prolonged cases of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) have led to an increase in cancer complications. Chemopreventive drugs have recently garnered attention in the United States, with various reports on the cancer preventative effects of 5-aminosalicylic acid and thiopurine, drugs typically used to treat inflammatory disease. As prolonged chronic inflammation is a risk factor for cancer complications, these drugs may help prevent cancer onset through longterm maintenance of remission. |
