[ Summary ] |
We retrospectively compared enteroscopic findings using capsule endoscopy and clinical character-istics of patients in the DBD (definite Behçet's disease) group and those in the SBD (suspected Behçet's disease) group. The DBD group tended to exhibit a longer duration of disease than those in the SBD group (p=0.05). Enteroscopic findings revealed rates of mucosal injuries in the small intestine in the DBD group and the SBD group and exhibited 100 % (11/11) and 50 % (2/4), respectively (p=0.057). In the jejunum, rates were 36 % (4/11) and 25 % (1/4) (p=N.S.). In the ileum, rates were 100 % (11/11) and 50 % (2/4) (p=0.057) in the DBD group and SBD group, respectively. There were no significant differences between the number of erosions or ulcers in the two groups involving the entire small intestine, the jejunum or the ileum. These observations suggest that SBD may be identified as DBD when there are mucosal injuries in the small intestine. |
