[ Summary ] |
Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a relatively rare disease. It is asymptomatic, and is most often accidentally discovered during treatment of ideopathatic conditions. There are cases in which drugs are causative factors leading to the development of PCI. Trichloroethylene, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, steroids, and immunosuppressive drugs are known to be causative agents. There have beer reports of implementation of intraabdominal free air imaging for treatment of PCI. However, if conservative treatments are discontinued, conditions, excluding gastrointestinal perforation, may require emergency surgery because intestinal necrosis may develop. |
