[ Summary ] |
Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease which sometimes requires repetitive bowel resections. Short bowel syndrome is a malabsorption disorder caused by extensive intestinal resections. Home parenteral nutrition is usually performed in patients with short bowel syndrome, which allows patients to lead relatively normal lives at home. Complications such as catheter sepsis and liver dysfunction are still severe problems in patients with short bowel syndrome, and periodical blood test, assessment of nutrition and mental support are recommended. |
