[ Summary ] |
Choosing the correct treatment strategy for colorectal cancer depends on preoperative assessment of disease extension, particularly T stage. Improved multi-detector CT scanners now allow us to obtain high quality 3-D images within a few seconds. Various kinds of post-processing techniques, such as endoluminal view imaging, multi-planar reconstruction imaging and air enema images are also useful. Theoretically, the conventional diagnostic criteria for barium enema examination and colonoscopy could be used to evaluate 3-D CT colonographic images. Intestinal wall deformities present with air enema images are particularly useful in producing findings for differentiating T stage. Endoluminal view imaging and multi-planar reconstruction images can be used to assess circumferential extent and extra-colonic invasion. CT colonography can provide important information for preoperative assessment of T stage colorectal cancer. |
