| [ Summary ] |
The genome wide association study (GWAS) was performed to reveal disease susceptibility genes for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The reported genes were those associated with the following : 1) chronic infection of hepatitis B virus (HBV), 2) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and 3）efficacy of the HBV vaccine. Interestingly, many of the hepatitis B susceptibility genes are located in the human leukocyte antigen region, indicating that immunity is highly correlated to the pathogenesis of hepatitis B. Information pertaining to hepatitis B susceptibility genes may lead to the elucidation of individual differences of disease progression, the calculation of hepatocarcinogenesis risk, and the development or establishment of novel treatment strategies including personalized medicine against hepatitis B. |
