[ Summary ] |
In Japan diagnosis of liver metastasis is primarily accomplished with CT scans. It is important to use multimodality images for precise diagnosis. When employing CT scans, the portal phase is essential for detecting metastasis. Dynamic studies are useful for detecting hypervascular metastasis. On MR imaging, diffusionweighted imaging is useful. However, attention must be paid to overlapping image findings from other tumors. SPIO enhanced MRIs and Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRIs exhibit a high degree of sensitivity. Both modalities have advantages and disadvantages. Contrast enhanced US imaging seems to be superior to CTs in terms of detecting smaller lesions. FDG-PET imaging is effective in detecting intrahepatic lesions, particularly in post-treatment scarred livers as well as detecting extrahepatic metastases. |
