[ Summary ] | The history of ERCP originated with its development by Dr. McCune and Dr. Ohi, Dr. Takagi in 1968 and 1969. Since then, new techniques such as EST, EBD and others have been introduced due to engineering developments. In addition, the indications for ERCP have been changed from only diagnostic ones to include therapeutic uses such as drainage, stone removal etc. These changes have come about since MRCP was introduced in the early 90's. In the first part of this century, chalongio-pancreatoscopic tools have changed from fiberscopic systems to videoscopic ones, by which clearer views have been obtained. Furthermore, imaging diagnosis such as narrow band imaging has been made possible with new video systems. Histology and cytology for bilio-pancreatic diseases have also been improved over the past two decades. However, these improvements have not fully satisfied clinical demands. Therefore, we must negotiate areas to be viewed with EUS-FNA, in order to achieve optimal diagnostic procedures. |
