[ Summary ] The Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) and other studies have shown that the incidence of fractures in Japanese hemodialysis patients is the lowest in the world.
Management of mineral and bone disorders based on the JSDT clinical practice guidelines, including lower target ranges for serum PTH concentrations than those in other countries may have helped reduce the incidence of fractures in Japanese hemodialysis patients. Renal rehabilitation for CKD is important to maintain muscle strength. New treatments including renal rehabilitation are expected to lower the incidence of fractures in hemodialysis patients.
