[ Summary ] In peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy, efficacy of dialysis and power of volume removal are less than that in hemodialysis (HD) therapy. However, because of these characteristics, PD has an advantage in maintaining homeostasis in a patient compared to that with HD. PD fluid supports the characteristics of PD therapy. In this session, we summarize the historical development of PD fluids and the PD fluid bag, and the future prospects for PD fluid. We also describe the significance of, and changes to, osmotic agents and electrode concentrations in current PD fluids, particularly in terms of sodium and calcium.
