[ Summary ] |
Colonoscopy (CS) is a routine examination, and most cases can be indicated for CS except for perforated or toxic megacolons. However, the painful examination associated with restriction of diet and intake of a cleansing solution causes patient discomfort. Adequate informed consent and understanding by patients are mandatory for good examinations. In outpatient clinic, we explain to patients the necessity of the examination and the associated procedures with explanation forms before making a reservation. The patients are told about the one week restriction of drinking and sports, or over night admission in cases of on site treatment of possible polyps. On the day of the examination, after confirming of state of stool and withholding anti-platelet or anti-coagulant medicines, colonoscopy is performed. If any sedatives are used during the examination, the patients may not remember what happened, therefore the explanation should be done on the different day. |
