With the increasing demand for colonoscopic examinations, the performance of endoscopes for insertion and diagnosis has become more important. This paper describes the information and precautions needed for using the currently pervailing "one-man method colonoscopy" from the viewpoint of an endoscope manufacture. Firstly, the structure and the components of a video endoscope 'are explained, along with the functions of each component. Secondly, the mechanical functions which affect the insertion performance are described in relation to monitor observation, which is the biggest merit of a video endoscope system. Lastly, various precautions for handling endoscopes are introduced, to explain how to use them safely over long periods of time. |
