In recent years, improvements in endoscopes focused mainly on better image quality and reduced diameters. However, Olympus colonoscopes have been gradually improved in terms of ability of insertion. We made clear that a combination of diameter and stiffness of the insertion tube had various affects on colon insertion. Therefore, we introduced many types of colonoscope which have had various combinations of diameter and stiffness. Recently we have introduced two types (different diameters) of colonoscope with variable stiffness, which will be more useful than other colonoscopes for insertion. Besides this, we improved other functions for insertion, such as optical characteristics, angulation characteristics and attachable devices. Also in the future, we will continue development of colonoscopes for easier and safer insertion. |
