[ Summary ] We reviewed recent topics in the clinical diagnosis and the management of acute bacterial infection of the intestine. The most frequent micro-organisms include Campylobacter, Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Yersinia enterocolitis. While identification of the responsible micro-organism is mandatory for the accurate diagnosis of each infection, findings obtained by a colonoscopy are useful for the prediction of the diagnosis. The findings are often characteristic of specific infection and they provide evidence for the appropriate management of each.
