| [ Summary ] | Intestinal tract infection is one of the frequently encountered diseases in daily practice and is generally treated synonymously with infectious enterocolitis because it causes inflammation in the intestinal mucosa. Infectious enteritis is mainly caused by bacterial and viral properties. The number of occurrences varies depending on the season and in Japan it is often considered a seasonal epidemic disease like influenza virus infection. In terms of the number of patients and the number of occurrences of food poisoning, Campylobacter infection is the most common in bacterial cases and norovirus infections in viral cases. In summer, food poisoning cases by enterohemorrhagic E. coli are often reported. It was also a topics in the field of intestinal infections that fidaxomycin, a treatment for Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection, was released in 2018. | |
