[ Summary ] Mucosal healing is associated with improved longterm clinical outcomes for ulcerative colitis. This is especially true when using the ulcerative colitis activity index. White light endoscopy is the gold standard for this condition. It has also been reported that biomarkers such as fecal calprotectin and FIT have reduced the strain on patients and are correlated with mucosal healing. Furthermore, results from meta-analysis have suggested that chromoendoscopy provides excellent detection of dysplasia and colitic cancer with surveillance colonoscopy.
