| [ Summary ] | New endoscopic treatment techniques are being developed. This is especially so in the field of endoscopic resection, where endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has evolved from endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). This has led to the need for new techniques, requiring more skills to be learned out of clinical situations. A method to practice endoscopic treatment for the stomach has been developed. This training is performed on a section of gastric tissue from a pig in a resinous frame. This method is useful for beginners learning how to operate a scope and forcipes outside of clinical situations. In the area of the colorectum the efficacy of ESD for particular tumors has been proven. However, ESD for colorectal tumors requires more skills than that for gastric tumors, due to the characteristics of the organ. Therefore, it is necessary to learn ESD techniques for colorectal tumor treatment outside of clinical situations. New training techniques for endoscopic treatment of the colorectum, using an artificial piece of intestinal wall are being developed. These will have the potential to provide efficient learning of ESD techniques for treatment of colorectal tumors, and more wide spread use of ESD. |
