[ Summary ] Appropriate surveillance endoscopy for the rectum should be performed based on the understanding of each procedure for anastomosis with (sub) total colectomy in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients with a complication of colitis associated cancer or dysplasia (CC/D). The remaining rectum is at a high risk of developing CC/D after an ileorectal anastomosis surgery. The exact indication for an endoscopic resection of CC/D is essential for clinical practice. The colon also is at a high-risk of developing CC/D after an endoscopic resection for low grade dysplasia. Therefore, highly accurate surveillance colonoscopy should be performed in those patients with UC.
