[ Summary ] |
Liver biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but it is difficult to perform on all nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients owing to its invasiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to develop non-invasive imaging methods for the diagnosis of NASH to replace liver biopsy. Ultrasound is the most widely used noninvasive modality for NAFLD screening. Recently, ultrasound has been used to quantitatively evaluate liver fat on the basis of the fat-attenuation feature. In addition, elastography using ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging as non-invasive methods for the evaluation of liver fibrosis has recently been developed, and its utility for diagnosis of NASH has been reported. |
